Royal Army vs. Raja Club Athletic: Intense Battle for Football Supremacy

The current season of the professional football championship witnesses a strong competition for the top spot between the current leader, Royal Army, and the pursuing team, Raja Club Athletic, up to the 22nd round of the league.

Royal Army, after playing 21 matches, leads the championship with 49 points, which is a good tally so far, with 15 wins, 4 draws, and 2 losses, with one match pending against Renaissance Berkane to be played this evening.

“The Soldiers” clinched the league title last season in a “Hitchcockian” scenario against Union de Tanger after a 15-year absence, marking their 13th title in the club’s history. Their aim this season is to achieve back-to-back titles after a good run that sees them topping the league standings 9 rounds before the finish line.

It won’t be easy for “The Leader” as they are closely chased by Raja, who seeks to delight their fans and secure their 13th title in their trajectory. Raja’s last league victory dates back to 2020, edging out their rival Wydad Athletic Club by a single point.

“Al-Awlad,” without any losses, have had a good run throughout the season, currently occupying the second position after 22 matches, winning 13 and drawing 9, accumulating 48 points, just one point behind the leaders, Royal Army.

Royal Army maintains an 11-point lead over the third-placed team, Fath Union Sport, while Wydad sits in fourth place with 32 points and two games in hand, indicating that the competition will intensify between Royal Army and Raja.

National coach Idriss Aabiss believes the gap between Royal Army and Raja isn’t significant, stating that ‘the competition remains open between them, and there are many matches that will determine the champion.’ He added, ‘We must wait at least until round 25 to see who possesses the final sprint towards the shield,’ in a statement during an interview.

Aabiss emphasized that “The Soldiers” have a significant morale boost being the champions of the previous edition and have many elements to claim the title, including financial and moral stability and the ambition of the fans for a consecutive title, although this could exert pressure on the players in the final rounds if not handled cautiously.

He further explained that Raja, despite the numerous problems it faces, has begun to improve its performance this season and is gradually returning to the top positions. He can achieve positive results this season if he manages the technical management of the matches well, paying attention to player injuries and the number of bookings, details that must be taken care of to maintain focus until the last round.

The former coach of several national teams also pointed out that Fath Union Sport, despite being slightly behind in the forefront, “could have competed for the top spot, but it was delayed due to player changes and reliance on the formation trend.” Nevertheless, they will continue to strive, along with Olympic Safi and Wydad, to compete for the title and perhaps create surprises in the final rounds of the championship.
